Special Alert on Fraudulent FDIC Emails

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is aware of emails appearing to be sent from the FDIC that are asking recipients to install unknown software on personal computers. Currently, the subject line of the email includes the phrase "Urgent Notification - Security Reminder." The email is fraudulent and was not sent by the FDIC.

The fraudulent email describes "a small client utility" - referred to as "ProBank" - that recipients are asked to install on home and business computers. Financial institutions and consumers should NOT access the link or download the executable file provided within the body of the email.

The FDIC is attempting to identify the source of the emails and disrupt the transmission. Until this is achieved, any First Bank of Dalton customers are asked to report this or any similar items they may receive to First Bank of Dalton so that we may take the appropriate action.

Safe Banking Over The Internet

Banking online is just as safe and secure as banking by phone, ATM, or in person.  Here's why.

When you travel the Internet to access the convenience of online banking, you want to be assured, first and foremost, that effective safeguards are in place to:

  • Protect the privacy of your personal transactions;
  • Ensure that your account information is accessible by you and you alone;
  • Guarantee that no one can eavesdrop on your transactions.

This is our assurance to you: When you use the Internet to visit us, whether it's to learn about rates, to review your account or to transact other business, you are entering a secure area. Here are just a few of the safeguards we have to help ensure your personal security when visiting us online:

  • Your password - When you visit us for the first time we will ask for information to identify yourself to us. We'll ask you to develop a secret password that only you will know. Only then will you be able to review personal information about your account.
  • Our Privacy Policies - Our privacy policies protecting your personal information are stringent and enforced - we insist that our employees and vendors adhere to them, and we post them on our web site for your review.
  • Encryption Software - so-called "cryptographic software" makes it possible to scramble a message between two parties (you and your bank), in a way that allows the message to be decoded only by the two parties.

For additional information about ways to protect yourself view our Online Security Tips.

VISA Checkcard Security

Visa checkcard security is important to First Bank of Dalton. Our Fraud Management Service (FMS) may contact cardholders if suspected fraudulent transactions attempt to clear the cardholders account. For more information on checkcard security, or to verify the validity of a checkcard call, please contact First Bank of Dalton at 706-226-5377. We will be happy to verify the validity of a suspected fraudulent card call before you disclose any of your personal information.

FDIC-Insured...or Not?

Your best guarantee for both online and traditional banking is your bank's membership in The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. First Bank of Dalton, of course, maintains FDIC insurance. Look for the familiar logo in our offices and on our web site:

Or, you can go to the FDIC web site to verify (see the accompanying list of web addresses).

Non-deposit investment and insurance products, such as mutual funds, stock, annuities and life insurance policies that may be sold through the Internet are not FDIC-insured and are not guaranteed by the bank. Also, any non-financial web sites that may be linked to our web site are not FDIC-insured. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding these issues.
